My Arlo camera won’t scan the QR code during setup | Arlo Support- Arlocomsupport.com

Some Arlo cameras can be connected to WiFI without the use of an Arlo SmartHub or base station. During the setup procedure, your Arlo camera must scan a QR code from the Arlo app. The QR code was not correctly scanned if your Arlo device did not generate a chime sound after scanning it. If you didn't hear a chime, keep reading this article.

If your Arlo device did not scan the QR code:

  • Move your mobile device closer or farther away from the camera lens.

It's possible that your mobile device isn't at the right distance or angle for your Arlo equipment to read the QR code.

Try putting your phone around 6 inches (15cm) away from the camera lens and progressively moving it closer. If it doesn't work, try moving it away from the lens of the camera.
You can also experiment with other perspectives.
  • Decrease or increase the brightness on your mobile device.

The camera on your mobile device may not be able to scan the QR code because the brightness is too high or too low.
If it's dark outside, consider turning down the brightness on your mobile device to 50%.
If it's bright outside, try turning up the brightness on your phone to its maximum setting.
  • Disable ‘Dark Mode’ if you’re using an iOS device.

Scroll down to Display & Brightness in your iOS Settings and select it. Select Light mode from the Appearance menu.
  • Scan the QR code in an evenly lit area.

Scanning the QR code in the dark or in direct sunlight is not recommended. If you're installing at night, put on porch lights if possible, or provide some shade if your Arlo device will be exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Check your camera permissions.

Make sure the Arlo app has access to your phone's camera in device settings on your Android or iOS smartphone.
  • Cover the IR LED with your thumb if you're setting up an Arlo Essential Video Doorbell and the IR LED is on while you're scanning the QR code.

Your camera's ability to scan the QR code may be hampered by the IR LED.
  • If possible, use a device with a larger screen, such as a tablet or iPad.

  • Clean the lens of the camera.

Debris or a smear on the camera lens could prevent it from scanning the QR code. Remove anything that can hinder the camera from scanning the QR code with a lint-free cloth.
  • Factory reset your device.

If you've tried everything else on this list and your Arlo device still won't scan the QR code, consider factory resetting it.
